Twenty-one women are being honored during the Women of Achievement (WOA) Luncheon, sponsored by the Elyria YWCA with support of the Lorain County Chamber of Commerce on November 12 at DeLuca’s Place in the Park.
Last year, the Elyria YWCA resurrected the Women of Achievement Luncheon and Award Ceremony as part of its yearlong celebration of the Elyria YWCA’s 100 Year Anniversary.
Women of Achievement chairperson, Joan Lowry, accurately predicted a sell-out event in support of women. “The community recognized that it was long overdue to recognize the efforts of the business and professional women who live and or work in Lorain County”, said Lowry.
The 21 honorees are:

The keynote speaker at the luncheon is Elyria native and Elyria Catholic grad Debra Lehman-Smith, co-founder and partner of Lehman-Smith McLeish an international architecture and interior design firm with offices in Washington D.C. and London. Her firm’s most recent project is the USA Today/ Gannett World Headquarters building in D.C., Among her other clients is Google in California.
“It’s an honor to have a business woman of Ms. Lehman-Smith’s caliber and who is home-grown to celebrate these honorees accomplishments.” says YWCA Executive Director, Jeanine Donaldson.
Donaldson noted that LCCC and UH/Elyria Medical Center is sponsoring her appearance.
Proceeds from this event sponsors the many programs for women and girls at the YWCA, including homeless shelters in Elyria and Lorain, YTeen Leadership Corps and the YWCA Dance Studio.
