Girls from two Bay Village Girls on the Run sites, Westerly Elementary and St. Raphael School, will be participating in the Girls on the Run 5k on Nov. 16 at Lock 3 in Akron.
More than 600 girls in 3rd through 8th grade in Cuyahoga, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit Counties have been participants in the fall season of Girls on the Run. In addition, families, friends and community runners will join the girls for the celebratory, family-friendly and untimed race Nov. 16.
The Girls on the Run of Greater Summit 5k is the culminating event of a 10-week, curriculum-based program that focuses on improving confidence of young girls. Through activities such as running, games and discussions about issues important to pre-teens, participants learn how to celebrate being themselves. They are empowered with a greater self-awareness, a sense of achievement and a foundation in team building to help them become strong, confident young women. More than 51 sites across five Northeast Ohio counties participated in the fall season.
