Westlake Police: ‘Nice Young Man’ Stiffs Elderly Woman

An 82-year-old North Ridgeville woman’s wallet (containing $80 cash) was taken on the afternoon of Jan. 30, report Westlake Police. She stated that a “nice young man’ (white male 18-20 years old, 5-10, thin build) first offered to help her find items at a Detroit Rd. market, then loaded her groceries into her car.  Lastly, he asked for a ride to the Regal theater, where she dropped him off.

Unfinished Business   

A Royal Forest Dr. man wants to know when the home improvements he paid $16,000 for will be finished. The contractor was to begin work in August and complete the project in 30 days. After attempts to get satisfaction from the contractor failed, the victim came to WPD on Jan. 23. He reported that the job is about half done and he has not seen or heard from the suspect since Dec. The City Prosecutor will rule on the matter.

Domestic Violence

A 57-year-old Waterfall Way man and his 45-year-old wife were both arrested for DV after a Jan. 24 fight at their home. Both had been drinking when the wife called police at 2:50AM. They had argued over the wife’s choice of wardrobe for the preceding evening. Shoves and blows were exchanged, resulting in fat lips and bruises for both.

TPO Issued

A Beechwood Dr. man received 4 texts from his estranged wife on Jan. 24 at 6:31AM, in violation of a TPO issued against her. When contacted by the investigating officer, she said she forgot about the TPO. A warrant for Violating a TPO has been issued.

$4K Wheels Swiped

A 2014 Toyota Camry belonging to a Bobby Ln. man had all 4 wheels stolen off of it on the night of Jan. 26 while it was parked at the owner’s residence. Loss is estimated at $4000.

Hit-Skip OVI

A 50-year-old Center Ridge Rd. man rear-ended another car near his home on Jan. 27 at 8:13PM, and then fled the scene. He was followed by the other driver, who called WPD. He was found in his apartment under the influence, refused to answer any questions, and was arrested for OVI. He refused a breath test and was cited for Assured Clear Distance and Hit Skip. He has a prior 2000 OVI conviction.

Missing Drugs

Rx drugs were discovered missing stolen at a Sperry Dr. business on Jan. 28. They had been left in a hallway for 3 days on a cart.

Not a Game

Some nefarious gamer used a Porter Rd. woman’s credit card account info to buy $198.00 worth of games online on Jan. 25.

Shoplifter

Clothing worth $218 was taken from a Main St. store by a 29-year-old Lakewood man on Jan. 29. He was stopped by a staff member after he exited and set off the theft alarm. He gave the employee a hard time about returning, but relented when an off duty Strongsville police officer stepped in. He was arrested for Petty Theft and also has warrants from North Olmsted PD, Elyria PD, and Athens County.

Drunk and Disorderly

While swigging from a whiskey bottle, an intoxicated 52-year-old North Olmsted man screamed vulgarities at the staff of a Westchester Pkwy. rehab center on Jan. 29 at 2:59PM. He was arrested for DCI and also has a warrant from Brooklyn PD. The staff of the rehab center stated that they were going to evict him for his conduct.

Purse Stolen

A Grafton woman’s purse was stolen from her 2010 Mercedes Benz 350 on the afternoon of Jan. 29. It contained credit cards and checks. The car’s passenger front window was broken while it was parked at a Columbia Rd. business.

Auto Parts Scam

Auto parts worth $293. 00 were ordered from a NY store on Jan. 29 by a male suspect using a Briar Ridge man’s credit card info. The suspect was to return to pick up the items on Jan. 30. The local police were asked to respond to the store if the suspect showed up.
