On 04/20/2015, at 1359 hrs, a West Oakland resident received a call from a male claiming to be with the FBI, report Bay Village Police. The caller indicated the resident had won $600,000 in a Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes, and he needed to send $1,500 (the tax on the winnings) to Mexico via a money order in order to claim his prize.  The resident complied, and later received a second call stating he needed to send more money.  He realized at this time the call was a scam.  Bay Police remind residents not to send money for unsolicited contests, they are a scam.

Club Treasurer Faces Theft Charges

On 09/16/2014, at 1426 hrs, the Bay Girls Softball Club reported to Bay Police that they believed their Treasurer had been stealing money from the organization for several years.  After a lengthy investigation it was determined that the Treasurer had stolen funds from the organization, report Bay Police, but an exact dollar amount could not be determined.  On 04/16/2015, at 0828 hrs, the 41 year-old man turned himself in to BVPD to answer to the charges of Theft and Possession of Criminal Tools.  He will face charges at RRMC.

Marijuana Possession

On 04/18/2015, at 1720 hrs, a BVPD officer stopped a vehicle on Bruce near Douglas for a traffic violation.  The registered owner of the vehicle had a suspended driver’s license.  After speaking with the 26 yoa driver, the officer learned the driver was the owner.  The officer also detected the distinct odor of raw marijuana inside the car.  One of the female juvenile passengers stated she had marijuana on her person, and gave it to the officer.  A search of the car turned up no more drugs.  The male driver (Cleveland resident) was arrested and will be charged with DUS, Possession of Marijuana, and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.  He will face charges at RRMC.  One of the female juvenile passenger will face charges at CCJC for Possession of Marijuana.

OVI

On 04/18/2015, at 0005 hrs, a BVPD officer stopped a vehicle on Westlawn near Bassett for a traffic violation.  After speaking with the 31 yoa male driver, the officer suspected the driver had been drinking.  Field sobriety tests were administered, and as result, the Cleveland resident was arrested for OVI.  He will face charges at RRMC.

Break-in

On 04/16/2015, at 1530 hrs, a resident in the 26000 block of Lake Rd. contacted BVPD to report someone had broken into her home during the previous week while she was on vacation and had a party.  Nothing was missing from the house.  Police are investigating.

IRS Fraud

On 04/14/2015, at 1810 hrs, a Bassett Rd. resident contacted BVPD to report his Federal Taxes had been fraudulently filed.  A report was filed in the matter.
