Market Season Kicks Off with Local Stops

Trevor Clatterbuck of Fresh Fork Market was on hand to personally fill the weekly grocery orders of his customer subscription service on the grounds of St. John Medical Center last Thursday. Fresh Fork offers the best of seasonal selections including timely fruits and vegetables right off the farm.

One of the joys of summer is the emergence of seasonal farmer’s markets.

There are plenty around this year, with two new attractions added to the farmer’s market calendar in Westlake and Avon Lake.

In Westlake, Fresh Fork Market, a top quality grocery subscription service to local farms, kicked off its 2015 season with its first weekly stop on the grounds of St. John Medical Center Thurs., June 4.

A bustling line of customers were efficiently greeted with customized bags of freshly harvested local provisions by Fresh Fork proprietor Trevor Clatterbuck and team.

Each week from June through October, subscribers receive their packages including timely fruits and vegetables, meats, cheese, eggs, grains and more at three area locations. They are:

large_veg_example– Westlake: SJMC on Thursdays from 2:30-6 p.m.

– Avon: Faith Lutheran Church on Thursdays from 7-9 p.m.

– Rocky River: Market Restaurant on Linda St. on Saturdays from 10 a.m. – noon.

Packages begin at $25 per week for a small share and $40 per week for a large share. Fresh Fork has 25 pick-up locales in the Cleveland area. It is an easy and affordable way to try all the farm-fresh foods grown right here in northeast Ohio.

Avon Lake Farmer’s Market

New to the area Farmer’s Market scene this year is Avon Lake Farmer’s Market, hosting hours from 3-7 p.m. every Tuesday through Sept. 29. Local produce and goods, including Black River Organics, Gray House Pies, and Elk Creek Honey. are being proffered at 32801 Electric Blvd (Avon Lake United Church of Christ): A full list of vendors can be found online. On June 2, the market’s opening day, Garth Proctor offered knife sharpening and a representative from the Rock Pile, Avon – Word Herder Matt Misencik – gave a short talk.  A highlight of this market is its plant exchange.
