New state-of-the-art equipment includes the LateralX elliptical, which adjusts from a standard vertical stepping motion out to a full left and right skating motion.

Brand new at the North Olmsted Recreation Center is a sparkling, high-end fitness center that is open to everyone.

Budget friendly plans range from daily walk-in rates to annual discounted memberships that can be used by residents from any community.

“We are excited about the center,” says North Olmsted Recreation Commissioner Betsy Drenski. “You don’t have to be a resident to join. And we offer daily, monthly, and annual fitness memberships that also include pool privileges.”

Rows of bright new treadmills, elliptical machines and bikes that range from spinners to recumbent stand in banks facing large screen, hi-def TVs. Ear phone plug-ins on each machine offer personalized enjoyment.

The place has that new-car smell. Fitness Supervisor Brad Browning speaks proudly of the cleanliness of the resource. “This is a generously equipped high-end studio, but priced at a level everyone can enjoy. And it is open to everyone, not just North Olmsted residents,” he says.

Visitor George Newman, a Key West resident who was in town last week to visit his dad in Fairview Park, was in the free weight area last week. He was taking advantage of the $8 daily fitness pass that also includes pool privileges.

The daily fitness pass is just 8 bucks for residents and non-residents alike. Want to save with a monthly agreement? It’s $25/mo. for North Olmsted residents and $35/mo. for non-residents. Annually, those rates are $210 and $310 (thru Sept. 6), respectively for adults (18-54). And for families (up to five members) membership is only $340 for residents and $440 for non-residents!

“If you decide you want to take a month to do something else, you are not stuck in a contract,” says Drenski. “You can walk away.”

But Drenski doubts many users will decide to leave once they get a taste of this ambitious remodel.

“If you get tired of the treadmill, join one of our group classes. Or use the pool,” she said. Group classes are a buffet of variety: Silver Sneakers, FIT and Silver & FIT for the young at heart, plus Cycling, Tai Chi, Hard Core, Zumba, Yoga, Barre Dance and Cardio-Dance keep the new group exercise rooms booked.

It is an exciting time at the North Olmsted Recreation Center. The $2 million renovation comes in the 40th anniversary year of the Center and also corresponds with the city’s bicentennial.

The new fitness center is complemented by a renovated front lobby, sparkling new locker rooms and a gymnastics center.

8,000 square feet of the North Olmsted Recreation Center have been renovated. The new Fitness Center is on the second floor (formerly the gymnastics area) and is sectioned into three spacious workout areas that encompass cardio, strength training and stretching. Equipment is user friendly and great for beginners. Fitness attendants are on duty to ensure smooth operation of the room along with answering any questions you may have. Fitness attendants also teach equipment orientation classes which are highly encouraged for first time members and guests.

The Gymnastics Center has a new space downstairs (with high ceilings and open accessibility). Two tennis courts are equipped with new flooring and equipment and plans are being made to add a walking program in the fall on the courts.

The North Olmsted Recreation Center is a recreation complex for the young and the young at heart to play and learn. The Recreation Center is available for residents living outside the City of North Olmsted, as well. The Complex features an indoor and outdoor pool, tennis courts, two ice rinks and a well-equipped gymnastic center. They offer classes for all ages in these facilities, as well as facilities outside the recreation center.
