Superheroes Join Forces With Westlake’s Youth Challenge

DSC_4967-84Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman were spotted on the streets surrounding Lakewood Park recently when more than 250 runners and walkers took part in the Youth Challenge Superhero Dash.

The 30th Annual Race Day took place on Saturday, September 19. The event was dedicated in memory of Dave Hardman, former President of the Youth Challenge Board of Trustees.

DSC_4704-14“The Superhero Dash is a great event for the community, our participants and volunteers,” said Ken Kasler, Youth Challenge Chief of Operations & Program Oversight. “The YC kids always love dressing up as superheroes and competing in the race.”

Members of the community, Youth Challenge families and friends—many dressed as Superheroes–ran or walked in the 5K and 1 Mile Walk/Roll.  Over $10,000 was raised from the annual event to benefit Youth Challenge.

Volunteer groups from Metro-West Kiwanis, Jesuit Volunteer Corps, YP4YC (the Youth Challenge Young Professional group), and other community volunteers pitched in to help make Race Day a great success.  Hermes Cleveland managed the race.

American Tank & Fabricating, First Federal of Lakewood, Linda & Doug Hardman, National Associates, Inc., Oatey Co., and Oatey Foundation sponsored the Superhero Dash.  Bruegger’s Bagels, Giant Eagle and Nature’s Bin provided food and water for the runners.
