Ridgeville Boy, Hit By Car After Sledding, Dies

A 9-year old North Ridgeville boy who was struck by a car after sledding down a hill on Jan. 12 has died.north ridgeville police

On Jan. 12  at approximately 5:00 P.M., a 9 year old sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a southbound vehicle on Meadow Lakes Blvd., report North Ridgeville Police.  The child was transported to St. John Medical Center by the North Ridgeville Fire Department, and then taken by Life Flight to Cleveland Metro Health Hospital.

The child had been sledding down a hill prior to being struck.

The incident remained under investigation the day of the accident

An update was issued on Jan. 13 identifying the 44-year old driver as a North Ridgeville man. The boy was identified as Drew Hayden, 9 year old male, from North Ridgeville. As of 11:45 A.M.  that date, the condition of the victim was critical. The matter was still under investigation.

On Jan. 16, North Ridgeville Police were notified by MetroHealth Hospital that Drew Hayden passed away from his injuries due to the traffic accident. The investigation is not complete, however there are likely to be no charges against the driver of the vehicle involved.

North Ridgeville Police Department will not be releasing any further information. Once the accident report has been completed, it will be sent out.
