Westlake Wrestlers Capture ‘Coach Ant’ Championship

The Westlake High wrestling team defended their Coach Ant Classic title by defeating a tough Fairview squad, 45-29 in the final match of the day Saturday.

Named for longtime Westlake coach Mike Antonyzyn, the Demons opened up with a victories over Brookside, John Adams and Clearview to advance to a finals clash against Fairview. The Warriors opened up a 23-0 lead but the Demons stormed back to close out the match and claim the team trophy.

Tommy Bowles (182 lbs) was named as the Green (Varsity) Division MVP, going 4-0 on the day. Owen Kruger won the Most Falls in the Least Amount of Time award as he won all 4 of his matches by fall in a remarkable 2:07. Liam Kruger also went 4-0 on the day. Going 3-0 were Issac Carmichael, Fares Zayed, Moe Zayed, Mo Mustafa and John Hayes.
