Heart Disease, Not Breast Cancer, is the Leading Cause of Death in American Women.
The message was sounded loud and clear as about 300 guests gathered at LaCentre in Westlake on Feb. 23 as part of the hospital’s ‘All About You’ program for women.
“For Ladies Only: Matters of the Heart”, presented by UH SJMC’s All About You: Women’s Health and Wellness program, was the largest event to date with over 300 women in attendance,” said Program Director Pamela Hoch. “It’s a sobering fact, but the truth is that heart disease is the number one killer of women, causing one in three deaths each year. That’s approximately one woman every minute! This is why UH SJMC has initiated our All About You series – to help build awareness and understanding of health topics that are important to women, with a focus on prevention.”
Guests heard specifics about heart health from John Coletta, MD, Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology, Andrew Filiatraut, DO, Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine, and Dina Sparano, MD, Cardiovascular Disease & Cardiac Electrophysiology.
Topics covered included: Warning Signs of a Heart Attack, Prevention of Heart Disease, Living a Heart Healthy Lifestyle, Cholesterol Treatment, Blood Pressure Management, and Irregular Heart Rhythms.
Guests were also treated to dinner after enjoying pampering like nail and makeup makeovers as well as health screenings, nutrition and exercise tips.
