Who Has the Best Senior Center Around??

DSC_1803-10University Hospitals St. John Medical Center hosted its first Senior Challenge of the year starting April 29, and NO (North Olmsted) Mercy took top honors against a contingent of rival teams.

The kick-off for the first Senior Challenge of 2016 was on April 29 with close to 100 walkers in the program.

Senior Centers participating in the competition include Team NO MERCY from North Olmsted Senior Center, Team SOLE MATES from Dwyer Senior Center, and Team RIVER ROCKS from Rocky River Senior Center. The participants must be at least 50 years of age.

Participants began the challenge with free screenings and ended this six week walking challenge with free biometric screenings from UHSJMC Community Outreach nurses. Screenings included cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure, BMI and waist circumference.

Participants received a pedometer to track their steps along with a backpack to carry water bottles. Members had the opportunity to warm-up with a SJMC physical therapy health professional. Different health presentations from SJMC health professionals were offered throughout the competition.

The program ended on June 10. Prizes were awarded for different categories including most steps taken, decreases in cholesterol, BPs, and many more!
