Honored for Commitment to Health Care Environmental Stewardship
University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center has been awarded the “Partner Recognition” Award from Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading health care community dedicated to transforming health care worldwide. Practice Greenhealth encourages health care facilities to reduce their environmental footprints, become community anchors for sustainability and leaders in the global movement for environmental health and justice.
The Partner Recognition Award is one of the Environmental Excellence awards given each year to honor environmental achievements in the health care sector. It recognizes the efforts of health care facilities that have begun to work on environmental improvements; have achieved some progress; and have at least a 10 percent recycling rate for their total waste stream.
UH Elyria Medical Center has been heavily engaged in sustainable business practices through its waste management work. The hospital is also a member of the Healthier Hospitals program, which provides health care organizations with tools and resources to advance sustainability.
“This award demonstrates our commitment to protecting the health of our patients, staff and community,” said Jose Natal, Manager of Environmental Services for UH Elyria Medical Center. “We look forward to working with Practice Greenhealth to continue navigating the path to sustainability for the future of health care.”
