Mercy Regional Medical Center held a special blessing and unveiling of a new memorial garden on Tues., Aug. 2, dedicating a special place just outside the surgical unit in memory of Denis A. Radefeld, MD.
The garden honors the memory of employees and physicians who were part of the surgical services team that have passed on.
Dr. Radefeld was a beloved surgeon who practiced in the Lorain County community from 1952 to 1998. In addition to practicing at Mercy, Dr. Radefeld also served as Chief of Staff, Chief of Surgery and Medical Director from 1975 to 1994. In addition to his service to the local community, he also completed 57 two-week medical mission trips to the Dominican Republic.
Eight other Mercy employees from the surgery team were honored with an unveiling of memorial stones.
Heartfelt words of remembrance of Dr. Radefeld and all the honorees were shared by Edwin M. Oley, CEO and President of Mercy Health. Catherine Woskobnick, Vice President Mission & Values Integration welcomed all with prayer, and Jim Leone, Board President, Mercy Foundation of Lorain County, shared scripture.
Rob Weigand, RN, Manager, Surgical Services, shared special memories of Dr. Radefeld and all the honorees, and tenor Anthony Trifiletti punctuated the ceremony with a moving presentation of “You Lift Me Up.”
Special recognition and thanks went to Supers Landscaping, Nick West and Mercy Foundation for the garden.
