Bay Village City Council took a moment at Monday’s City Council meeting to recognize the career of retiring Mayor Debbie Sutherland.

Law Director Gary Ebert presented Mayor Sutherland with a proclamation citing her many years of service as both a city council representative and as Mayor.

Now in her fourth term, Mayor Sutherland retires with the distinction of being the longest-tenured Mayor in Bay Village history.

“This has been a really wonderful experience not only representing my hometown. The people who work at the City of Bay Village for the residents are just phenomenal,” said Sutherland, a Bay High grad. “That has really been the highlight of my career – having the opportunity to work with not only the directors but the guys over at the Service Garage, the cops on the street, the firefighters. They are just phenomenal people and it has been just a really great ride.”
