The Community West Foundation expresses its sincere thanks to the Gift of Life Committee and the many friends in the community that have supported this annual event for the past 16 years.
The 2016 Gift of Life gala was hosted by Community West Foundation on Friday, Aug. 26 as several hundred guests turned out for a festive evening at Avon Oaks Country Club.
The Gift of Life gala is dedicated to ensuring that babies born at Fairview Hospital are safer every day!
Under the leadership of event chairpersons Debbie Norton and Katie Reidy, the event creates an opportunity for Community West Foundation and Fairview Hospital to join forces and protect our children in the face of alarming statistics that show increases in infant mortality throughout Cuyahoga County.
One of the ways proceeds from the Gift of Life are used is to provide sleep sacks for the 5000 infants born at Fairview Hospital each year. The sacks keep babies safe right from the start and promote essential ‘back to sleep’ practices that can help eliminate preventable infant death.
The fundraiser is also assisting in the development of a Low Risk Birthing Unit to provide mothers and babies delivery and recovery in the same location.
For the tiniest of patients in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, programs will be enhanced that touch more than 500 infants, as well as supporting the respite rooms for parents and families in the Ronald McDonald House at Fairview Hospital.
