The Avon Lake Marching Band made history with a performance that earned the band straight superior ratings at the first marching band contest of the fall season. The band placed first in Class A and second out of the fifteen bands performing at the event. The contest was held at Maumee High School on October 1st. The superior rating qualifies the band for the Ohio Music Education Association State Marching Band Finals.
This marks the seventh year the band has qualified for state finals and the first time ever to have earned straight superior ratings from all of the judges. In 2009, the band qualified for state finals at the first show of the season at Swanton High School. The band’s show this year is called “American Sketches” that features traditional American music. This show has been getting great reviews from football fans as well as contest judges. It is a powerful high-energy show that is colorful and patriotic. The band is led by Drum Major, Ryan Jaeckin, and Field Commanders, Nathan Plow and Evan Thomas. The band is directed by David Eddleman along with assistant director Christopher Ewald.
