Recently, four new candidates were announced to be inducted into the Westlake High School Hall of Fame. At the halftime of a Westlake Boys basketball game, Tom Beres, WHS Class of 1968, Karen Swanson Haan, Class of 1999, George Christ and Ken Krepop were tapped to become members of the Class of 2017. Tom was named to the Distinguished Hall of Fame for his 43 years as a TV news reporter…37 at WKYC…18 of those as Senior Political Correspondent and winner of four Emmy awards. Karen, Class of ’99, will enter the Athletic Hall of Fame for the 11 varsity letters (4 in basketball, 3 in volleyball, 4 in softball) earned while at Westlake High School and for her athletic accomplishments in basketball while at the University of Notre Dame. Ken Krepop and George Christ will be the newest members inducted into the Honorary Hall of Fame. Ken was a Westlake City Schools teacher, coach, and the athletic director for a career spanning 31 years. George Came to Westlake in 1965 and served for 33 years as a teacher, coach, high school asst. principal, middle school principal and Asst Superintendent.
Also to be honored at this Fall’s festivities will be the Dean family for their countless contributions to the schools and community. The Dean family, all Westlake graduates, established Dean’s Greenhouse in 1924. The business continues to flourish in Westlake due the hard work of this outstanding family. They are only the second family to receive the Dover/Westlake Alumni Association Lifetime Achievement Award.
These outstanding individuals will be honored at an induction banquet to be held October 12 at Wagner’s Country Inn in Westlake. They will also be presented at Westlake High School’s Homecoming festivities on Friday. October 13. The festivities are growing in attendance each year and all are invited to become a part of this exciting event. As we near the event be on the lookout for specifics to make your reservation!
