Avon Girls Claim Southwestern Conference Track Title

Sydnie Firment wins the 400.

Led by wins from Sydnie Firment, Claire Robertson, Kamryn Sharer and Jules Frombach, the Avon High girls track team captured the 2017 Southwestern Conference championship at the league meet held at Amherst last Friday.

The championship was the first-ever for the Eagle girls in the SWC. The school joined the tough Southwestern Conference two years ago.

Team standings: 1. Avon 174, 2. Amherst 137, 3. Berea-Midpark, 90; 4. Avon Lake, 65, 5. Westlake, 50.5, 6. Olmsted Falls, 50, 7. North Ridgeville, 48.

Jules Frombach en route to winning the 1600 meter run in 15:15.

Sharer won both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Frombach captured the 1600 and placed third in the 3200 while Robertson won the 3200 and took third in the 1600. Firment took first in the 400 meter dash.

For Avon’s boys. Sam Gerak took the shot put and Mike Rennette won the 110 meter hurdles.

Team standings: 1. Berea-Midpark 132; 2. Amherst 109, 3. Avon 94, 4. Westlake 75.5, 5. Avon Lake 61.5, 6. North Olmsted 49, 7. Midview 47, 8. North Ridgeville 42, 9. Olmsted Falls 30, 10. Lakewood 23.

Berea-Midpark was paced by the outstanding double turned in by senior Sean Peterson, who won both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. It was the sixth consecutive SWC title for the school.
