Wanted: Police Impostor Detains Bay Teen

Bay Village Police are looking for an impostor who detained a teenage girl on Oct. 6.

Police report that on October 6, 2017 a 17 Year Old Female was pulled over by an individual who presented himself as a Police Officer. This incident occurred on Rexford Avenue near Aberdeen Road in Bay Village at approximately 11:20 pm, with the subject following the victim for a short distance prior to pulling her over.

The subject was driving dark colored SUV, which had a single blue flashing light. This flashing light was located on the roof of the vehicle, on the driver’s side. The vehicle was not equipped with (or did not use) a spot light, visor light, or grill lights.  

The subject was a White Male, with Brown Hair, Taller (Possibly over 6 Feet), and described to be in his Late Twenties to Early Thirties. The subject was wearing a dark blue or black uniform shirt, but displayed no badge, no name tag, or patches.

The subject continually shined his flashlight in the victim’s face, and requested her driver’s license and proof of insurance. The victim was told she was pulled over for “going left of center” and was asked if she “had done anything bad or suspicious” earlier in the evening. The subject never provided his name or the agency he was employed by. As of October 12, 2017, we have been unable to verify if this individual is employed by or associated with any Law Enforcement Agency.

The Bay Village Police Department is requesting if anyone being pulled over by a Police Officer in Bay Village is unsure if the officer is legitimate to please contact (440) 871-1234. A Bay Village PD Dispatcher will then be able to verify who is stopping you.  Additionally, a person should begin to drive toward the Bay Village Police Department at 28000 Wolf Road.
