Rocky River Middle School Team Earns Gold at State Competition

State Champions in the Mystery Architecture category Morgan Way and Laith Wattar

The Rocky River Middle School Science Olympiad team brought home a gold medal at the 2018 Ohio Science Olympiad State Tournament.

Seventh grader Morgan Way and eighth grader Laith Wattar were named state champions in the Mystery Architecture category. They won the gold by building the longest load-bearing cantilever with only materials provided – a piece of paper, a roll of masking tape and skewers.

Team members also scored win the Top 20 in the categories Microbe Mission, Herpetology, Ecology and Fast Facts. The team placed 30th overall in state competition. The state tournament was held recently at The Ohio State University.

 

The 20-member RRMS Science Olympiad team is led by adviser Michelle Gibson and assistant Deb DeCarlo.
