High Steaks: Shoplifters Meat gets Stuck in Car Door

It’s pretty hard to deny shoplifting a steak when your meat gets stuck in the car door!

That’s what happened to a Fairview Park lightfinger last week as he attempted to abscond from Giant Eagle with a stash of steaks.

Police were called to the grocery store on July 9 on a report of a male who stole some steaks from the shop. Upon arrival, the male was gone and the clerk gave a description of the suspect. The officer checked the plaza and saw a male holding a shirt like that described by the clerk. As the officer drove that way, the suspect got in the car which then left the lot.

Running the plate, it was learned that the listed owner had a warrant. The officer stopped the car and found the owner was driving.

The passenger was questioned about the theft, but initially denied any theft. He exited the car to get something from the back, and one of the officers observed a steak get wedged in the door.

Looking in the window, he saw more steaks in the back floorboard of the car.

The 47 year old suspect from North Royalton was arrested for Petty Theft, having taken over $400 worth of meat as well as 2 cases of beer. The driver was released at the scene when the Sheffield Police Dept. was unable to pick him up on their warrant due to manpower issues.
