The Westlake Corporate Challenge is a unique summer competition hosted by the City so professionals and employees from the business community can come together in a spirit of fun and good-natured gamesmanship.

“This year is our biggest challenge ever, with 14 companies battling to be crowned the champs,” said Bob DeMinico, Director Westlake Recreation, as things kicked off on July 31.

Teams participated in a variety of games, ranging from bowling, a wiffle-ball home run derby, sand volleyball and even cupcake baking!

The 2018 Westlake Corporate Challenge ran from July 31 – Aug. 9.  More than 25 events were held, each one filled with fun, excitement, laughter and offers a great opportunity for team building.

“We also donated 81 backpacks stuffed with over 100 school supplies each and donated them to Fox 8 Stuff the Bus campaign,” said DeMinico. “$300 and over 1,000 nonperishable food items were also donated to the Westlake Cupboard Assistance Program. And 130 pints of blood were donated to Life Share and American Red Cross.”

Teams were split into 2 divisions. Stars Division teams included Brookdale Westlake Village, Energizer, City of Westlake, Q-Lab Corporation, UH St. John Medical Center, United Consumer Financial Services and Western Enterprises.

Stripes Division consisted of Biltmore Asset Management, ECHO Health, Inc., OxyGo, Partnership LLC, Sea Land Chemical, The Spy Glass Group, LLC and Transponder Island.

Saving the best for last, the annual Cardboard Boat races at the Westlake Rec Center concluded the competition with lively races in the creatively designed boats.
