Soup’s On! Bay Finds the Cure for Polar Vortex

Polar Vortex? What Polar Vortex? West Shore seniors found the perfect cure for winter weather at the 11th annual Soup Cook Off in Bay Village last week as chefs from area senior living facili-ties vied for honors at the annual fundraiser for Bay Senior activities.

Just in time for the Polar Vortex, the City of Bay Village hosted its 11th annual Soup Cook Off at the Dwyer Memorial Senior Center.

10 local chefs representing many of the area’s great senior care and assisted living facilities boiled up their best winter recipes for a packed-out crowd of guests to enjoy.

“The Soup Cook Off is our major fundraiser of the year,” explained Connie Lupica, Assistant Director Bay Village Community Services. “This was the 11th year. We raise money in order to provide programs to the seniors. It is a fun event that our community seems to enjoy. 200 people plus attend the Soup Cook Off.”

She offered special thanks to Margie Kaufman of Integrity Home Care and Kim Zdanowicz of the Normandy Senior Living for sponsoring the the event.

A $7 donation brought guests generous portions of a variety of delicious soups, roll, beverages and desserts at the Jan. 25th event. There were also chances for door prize drawings. As usual, the popular event was a sell-out! All proceeds from this fundraiser benefit the Senior Center.

Guests voted on their favorite soups. Winners were Huntington Woods (first) for its Sea Food Chowder, the Normandy (second) for its Pumpkin-Apple-Bacon Soup and Towne Center (third) for its popular Lobster Bisque. All participants were winners, however, with all their great recipes. Participants included:
