Avon High School Student Wins National Skating Competition

Avon High School senior and competitive figure skater, Kaelynn Higgins, 17, recently participated in the United States Figure Skating 2019 National Showcase event in Wenachtee, Washington. She won first place in her event, earning her the title of 2019 National Showcase Senior Interpretive Champion. As part of an Interpretive competition, skaters must choreograph a program on the spot to music they are not given prior to the competition.

She has been skating for 10 years and competes in Interpretive, Showcase, and Free Style skating competitions. Higgins is a member of Forestwood Skating Club of Parma (Ohio) and trains at Michel A. Ries rink in Parma.

In her spare time, Higgins teaches skating and enjoys working in the special needs preschool classrooms at the Avon Early Learning Center.
