The Rocky River High football team traveled to Westlake last Thursday for the inaugural Westwood Cup showdown, a new rivalry between the two schools.
Westlake held a 7-6 lead at the half, but the Pirates took charge after the intermission to outscore the host Demons with 21 unanswered points to post a 41-14 victory.
The Westlake Demons began their season with a loss in the Westwood Cup game to the Rocky River Pirates.
The Pirates jumped out to an early 6-0 lead but the Demons scored on a Connor Gregory 4 yard TD run and Aidan Sharak added the point after.
The half would end with the Demons on top 7-6.
The Pirates came out in the second half and took the kickoff right down the field and scored to make it 13-7. The Pirates would stop the Demons and score again to make it 20-7. A Monken to Bednar long pass led to a Connor Gregroy 4 yard run and the lead was cut to 20-14 but after that it was all Pirates as they scored 21 unanswered points for the final of 41-14.
Westlake Report: On the night, Westlake QB Monken was 13/27 for 195 yards and three interceptions. Conor Gregory had 17 carries for 53 yards and 2 scores and Austin Norris had 6 catches for 69 yards and Dylan Bednar had 7 catches for 85 yards.
The Demon defense was led by Tyler Malin and Conor Gregory each in double digits in tackles.
Next up for the Demons is the Inaugural Horns and Talon game at North Olmsted next Friday at 7 pm.
