Westlake Police: Nursing Home Asst. Found with Patient Credit Cards

Westlake Police report that a traffic stop revealed that a nursing home assistant had patient credit cards for no reportable reason.

The news release:

‘On 10/3/19 at approx. 2:30PM an officer stopped a vehicle at Columbia and Detroit Rds after learning that the registered owner had an active arrest warrant and a suspended license.  The female driver was the registered owner and said she was on her way to work at a local nursing home. The officer detected signs of drug use in the car and confirmed the warrant with North Olmsted PD.

‘A search of the vehicle did not reveal any illegal narcotics but the officer did note that there were 2 credit cards with a male’s name.  The driver did not know the person listed on the cards. Investigation revealed that the cards belonged to a patient at the nursing home. Administrators there confirmed that a nursing assistant had no reason to have a patient’s credit card.  Charges had also been fraudulently made on the cards.

‘Before knowing the full extent of the crimes involved, the 27yo from Cleveland was charged with driving under suspension and released to North Olmsted PD on their warrant.  Additional warrants for the female for felony receiving stolen property theft were received through Rocky River Muny Court.’

Head-On Crash on Center Ridge

On 10/3/19 at about 9PM WPD received a call of a traffic crash at Center Ridge and Porter Rds.  One of the vehicles went left of center striking the other head on. The female operating the striking vehicle pulled into a nearby parking lot before officers arrived.  When speaking with her, the patrolmen noticed that she was slurring her speech. The 41yo Westlake resident was field tested and arrested for OVI and failure to maintain marked lanes.  Luckily no one was injured in the crash. At the Westlake Jail the female refused a breath test.

He Admitted to Drinking

On 10/7/19 at approx 3AM WPD received reports of a heavily damaged vehicle traveling W/B on Center Ridge Rd from Dover Center.  The responding officer found the vehicle driving on one tireless rim, no front bumper, one headlight, and a rear bumper that was hanging off the SUV.

The airbags had also been deployed. The male said that he did not know exactly what had happened but thought that he had struck a fence. He did admit to drinking.  The 28yo Westlake resident was field tested and arrested for OVI. At the station he tested 2 times the legal limit. Later in the morning a person on Northglen Dr reported that a vehicle had driven through her yard and conveniently left numerous vehicle parts scattered about.  In fact the OVI vehicle had struck a fence, trees and other landscaping. The driver was also charged with hit-skip for leaving the scene of the crash.

Apparent OD

On 10/7/19 at about 5:30P a concerned citizen called about a male sleeping in a pickup truck in front of a residence on Southbridge Cir.  The male was parked on the curb and was slumped over in his seat when the officers arrived. While he did wake up when roused, a squad was summoned as it appeared he was overdosing.  Eventually the male admitted that he was a heroin user. While the male was transported to the hospital for treatment, officers located suspected heroin in the vehicle along with THC vape cartridges.  The powder was sent to the lab for analysis. Possible charges will be determined at a later time.
