On 11/22/19 at approx 5:45PM the manager at Key Bank on Columbia Rd called Westlake Police to report that they had been robbed. A white male handed over a note to a teller indicating that he had a weapon. No weapon was observed and no one was injured during the robbery. The male made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. Later that night, the Ohio State Highway Patrol checked on a male sleeping in a vehicle at a rest stop in Milan, OH. The vehicle was listed as stolen out of Vermont and the male, a 36yo from Cheaster, VT had an active bank robbery warrant from a robbery in Bellows Falls, VT. Seeing the resemblance to the Westlake robber, WPD detectives were dispatched to interview the suspect. Evidence was collected and a warrant was obtained for felony robbery to be served once he is finished with OSP’s charges.
Westlake Police Find Guns, Kids & Grass in Traffic Stop
Westlake Police report that On 11/22/19 at about 11:15AM an officer stopped a vehicle on Crocker at Union St for traffic and equipment violations. The officer noted evidence of recent drug use in the vehicle and 2 children in the back seat and investigated further. A search revealed that the vehicle contained 3 loaded handguns and suspected marijuana. The driver, a 29yo Lorain resident, was arrested and charged with having weapons under disability. This was due to his prior felony convictions of weapon, drug and assault violations. The female passenger, a 37yo Lorain resident, was cited with possession of marijuana and released with her children. At the Westlake Jail, the male was also found to be in possession of suspected crack cocaine which will prompt additional charges of conveyance into a jail facility and possession of cocaine.
2.5 Times Legal Limit
On 11/23/19 at approx. noon, officers responded to a motor vehicle crash in the intersection of Columbia and Detroit Rds. One of the driver’s involved almost fell over when trying to retrieve his license and insurance. The 44yo North Ridgeville resident was field tested and arrested for OVI. He later tested over 2 ½ times the legal limit. Luckily no one was injured in the collision. The male was charged with felony OVI due to having 7 prior OVI convictions, including 1 felony OVI in his past. He was transferred to the Cuyahoga County Jail.
On 11/26/19 at about 1:30P officers responded to a business on First St for a reported theft of a catalytic converter. The exhaust was cut off of a Ford F350 in the lot. Investigators believe this theft is related to the catalytic converter thefts which occurred on 11/18/19 on Sharon Dr.
Meth Pipe Found
On 11/27/19 at approx. 1:30PM officers responded to a report of a male possibly trying to break into a shed at a residence on the 26000 block of Westwood Rd. The described male was actually located sitting on the ground by the shed whittling a stick. While he was taken into custody without further incident, the 33yo Kent, OH resident admitted that he had methamphetamine and a pipe with him. He added that he had just smoked it. The male did not have any explanation on why he was in the yard except to say that he was going to see his “friend” inside the backyard shed. The male could not be booked in immediately due to his intoxication. Drug charges are pending.
