What is the AARP Tax Counseling Program?
Tax-Aide is a free, quality service supported by friendly people in your neighborhood. IRS-trained and certified volunteers will prepare most personal federal and state tax returns free of charge for middle to low-income and elderly taxpayers.
What papers should I bring to the AARP Tax-Aide Site?
All the following information for yourself and for your spouse if you file jointly:
- Picture identification and social security cards of taxpayer, spouse and anyone else to be included on tax return.
- A copy of last year’s federal and state income tax returns
- All W-2 forms from each employer, if you earned a salary
- Form SSA-1099 showing Social Security benefits you received
- All 1099 forms showing interest, dividends, pensions, annuities, etc.
- All receipts or canceled checks for medical/dental expenses, contributions and similar records if itemizing deductions
- Any forms related to Health Care Insurance (e.g. 1095-A, -B, -C)
