Westlake Schools Name Four to Alumni Hall of Fame

The Westlake Alumni Association proudly announced its Class of 2020 at halftime of Friday’s Westlake-North Ridgeville basketball game.

Megan Moutoux, Alumni Association Coordinator, introduced inductees: Bonnie Bauer Morris, the 2001 Girls Golf Team, Dr. Jean Bishop and Vernon Long.

Bonnie Bauer Morris – (Class of 1995) Bonnie will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for being an outstanding Westlake student athlete, 10 varsity letters in soccer, basketball and track. Bonnie is a Semper Fi Distinguished Athlete, earned a full scholarship to Francis Marion University. Bonnie continued having success as a collegiate athlete, graduated and pursued her Masters in Special education. She has coached youth to high school soccer teams and lacrosse teams. Bonnie lives in Medina with her husband Brian and their children Jack and Maggie. Congratulations Bonnie!

2001 Girls Golf Team – This team will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for their success as a newly formed girls golf team, under the coaching of Mary Beth Schneidler. Their inaugural season they won the SWC title, placed in districts and moved on to states as a team with a 20-0 record. They fell short of a title but their accomplishments paved a way for a very strong and successful golf program to date. Congratulations!!!

Dr. Jeanne Bishop – She will be inducted into the Honorary Hall of Fame. Dr. Bishop taught astronomy, geology and physical science from 1970 – till her retirement in 2006.

She organized the first Science Olympiad team and coached from 1997-2005. After her retirement in 2006, she kept the role as Planetarium Director. She still hosts monthly evening programs, more info on Westlakes website. Dr.Bishop was married to her late husband, Dr. Allan Bishop of 41 years. They have a son Dr. Eric Bishop who is married and lives in Boston with their daughter. Congratulations Dr. Bishop!!!

Vernon Long – Will be inducted into the Honorary Hall of Fame for his outstanding teaching, mentoring and coaching. He was an engaging American history teacher who made sure you were having fun while learning. Coach Long coached for 27 seasons at Westlake and was at one point named OHSAA Coach of the year. His record 149-119-6, included 6 conference titles, several regional contests and 3 state playoff appearances. Even in retirement, Vern is an advocate for all things Westlake, he has helped on many bond and levy committees to make sure our schools have what they need to continue to educate for excellence. He is married to Jeanne and they reside in Westlake. Congratulations!!!
