Westlake Police Assist with Community Outreach

Community oriented policing is part of the fabric of the Westlake Police Department. This is a stressful time of isolation for many in the community. Teaming up with established organizations is a great avenue for the police department to continue connecting with the public we serve. We are proud to associate with Meals On Wheels who, day in and day out deliver to many of our most vulnerable citizens.

Executive Director Marie Patten-Blatter has been with Meals On Wheels for four years. She and her staff prepare over 600 meals weekly for 75 clients in five communities including Westlake. These nutritious meals are prepared and delivered Monday through Friday every week of the year, rain or shine. The daily meals consist of one hot meal for lunch or dinner and a cold meal.

Patten-Blatter along with Brooke O’Donnell and Nancy O’Toole are the directors of a harmonic staff of nearly 170. Marie’s staff is all volunteer and many are retired community members who wanted to continue serving others. Under the current circumstances of the most recent global events, many of the workers have decided to stay home. The shortfall in Marie’s staff has been picked up by younger volunteers, to include members of the Westlake Police Department.

The city offered to help and Marie accepted assistance from the Auxiliary Officers, Community Service Officers and the School Resource Officers. These officers know the city and understand the importance of the work being done by Meals On Wheels. Marie’s volunteers are ready and willing to come back but, in the meantime the Police continue to lend a hand.
