Westlake Porter Public Library to Commemorate 20th Anniversary of 9/11

Westlake Porter Public Library will commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with a special poster exhibition of September 11, 2001: The Day That Changed the World. Consisting of images and stories from survivors and witnesses, the exhibit will be hung in the art gallery area. It will be accompanied by postcards upon which visitors will be encouraged to share their memories of that day. The memory cards will be placed in a book for others to view. The exhibit opens on September 1.

The exhibition was developed by the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum and was made possible in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities: Democracy Demands Wisdom.

In addition to the exhibit, the library will also be collecting memories and hopes for the future in the Youth Services Department from September 1-10. They will be placed on stars and hung in Christina’s Corner, which memorializes Westlake resident Christina Sunga Ryook who was in the World Trade Center when it was attacked. Visitors may view the memory/hopes stars from September 11 through the week following. Anyone who wishes to leave a memory or hopes on a star but cannot visit the library September 1-10 may contact the Youth Services Department at 440-250-5471.

The library will also be doing a series of blog posts (blogs.westlakelibrary.org) highlighting the poster exhibit and other library programs commemorating the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks. Other blog posts will feature materials owned by the library focusing on 9/11.
