Earlier this month, Auditor of State Keith Faber announced that Bay Village City School District received the Auditor of State Award for its clean audit reports for the fiscal year ended 2021. Bay Village City Schools is one of 104 districts/schools in Ohio, and one of 14 districts/schools in Cuyahoga County receiving the distinction.
The State Auditor’s office shares information as far back as 2014, and Bay Village Schools has received the Ohio Auditor of State Award every year since 2014, except for 2017, so seven of the last eight years.
“In a time when financial transparency is so important, this clean audit award sends a strong message to our internal and external stakeholders that we strive to provide the best financial reporting to our local and state communities,” said Meghan Rohde, Treasurer of Bay Village Schools.
The Bay Village Schools Financial Team consists of: Meghan Rohde, Treasurer; Judi Hansen, Accounts Payable & Health Benefits; Ellen Watterson, Accounts Receivable; and Anne-Marie Zeuch, Payroll.
The Auditor’s office presents the Auditor of State Award to local governments and school districts upon the completion of a financial audit. Entities that receive the award meet the following criteria of a “clean” audit report:
- The entity must file financial reports with the Auditor of State’s office by the statutory due date, without extension, via the Hinkle System and in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles);
- The audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weakness, significant deficiencies, Uniform Guidance (Single Audit) findings or questioned costs;
- The entity’s management letter contains no comment related to:
- Ethics referrals
- Questioned costs less than the threshold per the Uniform Guidance
- Lack of timely annual financial report submission
- Bank reconciliation issues
- Failure to obtain a timely Single Audit in accordance with Uniform Guidance
- Findings for recovery less than $500
- Public meetings or public records issues
- The entity has no other financial or other concerns.
