Avon Opens the Canning Family K-9 Park

The city of Avon celebrated the grand opening of the Canning Family K-9 Park with a ribbon-cutting at the new Veterans Memorial Park facility on Sunday, July 31, a project more than a year in the making.

The park is named after the Canning family, whose $20,000 donation made possible the equipment and facilities that go in the park, including dog drinking fountains and play stations. The park even has two sections – one for large dogs and one for smaller dogs.

Avon Mayor Bryan Jensen acknowledged the Cannings’ generosity in making the park possible. Matt (Canning) immediately stepped up and said that his family would like to be a part of this,” reported the mayor.

“We did it because we like dogs and we like people and we like people who like dogs,” said Matt, who, with his family, joined the mayor in the ribbon-cutting.

Dozens of pet owners and their dogs joined in for the spirited ribbon-cutting and opening. The Canning Family K-9 Park is open from 8 a.m. to dusk. It is located at 3701 Veterans Memorial Parkway near the lacrosse fields and Vet No. 1 softball field.
