Saturday, Sept. 10 was a historical day for Westlake Porter Public Library. It was not only an honor, but a privilege, that WPPL received a piece of steel from the World Trade Center September 11 attacks to share with the public.

The ceremony unveiled the steel and display memorializing the September 11 attacks and Westlake resident Christina Ryook, who passed away that day from the attacks. Ryook, was in the North Tower of the World Trade Center when the first plane hit in the 9/11 attacks. An administrative assistant at Cantor Fitzgerald, she was on the 104th floor — six floors above the impact. No one on the floor survived.
Patrons of WPPL are invited to come view the display and touch the piece of steel to connect with the events from that fateful day. This piece of steel is from an event we must never forget because in some way it has affected everyone in this country.
This display is here to stay and remind Westlake residents we must never forget and let Christina’s story and legacy live on forever.\
