The Westlake High boys basketball team lodged a hard-fought decision at Bay Friday night, 56-53.
They say “it don’t come easy” and that is certainly the case with the Westlake boys varsity hoopers.
The contest was back and forth in the first half with Bay up 26-23 at the intermission. After making some nice adjustments, the Demons proceeded to drop in 24 points in the 3rd period. The effort was led by a truly spectacular performance put on by Will Ostrowski who finished with a eye popping game high 29 points and he and his Demons riding a three point lead going into the final period.
Westlake gritted out the 4th, showing poise and resilience, in and amongst the raucous home Rocket crowd with clutch foul shooting by Ostrowski down the stretch to secure the victory. Derek Occhipinti came up huge in this one as well, adding 20 points and was a force on the boards against a big Rocket front court. The Demons improved to 6-4 with this important conference win.
The Rockets competed hard all night long but came up short against the Demons. The Rockets were led by Augie Payne with 14 points and 4 assists and Carson Gergye with 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 steals.
