Last week’s OHSAA State Wrestling Meet at OSU’s Schottenstein Arena again brought out the best in local athletes. In addition to St. Edward winning the Div. I team title, a number of individuals from other schools made their mark in the state wrestling book. Here’s a look some of our star athletes!

Sophomore Adam Butler of Lakewood placed 5th in the state at 120 pounds for St. Edward High. The Eagles won their 8th straight team title.

Ryan Bennett of St. Edward (135 pounds), an Avon resident took home individual runner up honors for the Eagles.

Jack Marconi (165 pounds, a senior from Avon Lake, represented the Shoremen well but did not place in his appearance at state. Still, a great showing by the Shoremen senior.

Layla Patterson, a junior representing Avon Lake High, celebrates her opening round win over Marley Bulerin. Layla did not place but will always carry the honor of participating in the first-ever OHSAA girls state wrestling tournament.

Bay High junior Anthony Rocco wrapped up a great year at 113 pounds with an 8th place finish, good for all-state honors.
