Ground Works Land Design, award-winning full-service landscape and design company, acknowledges community partnership and prepares to break ground on the BAYarts Sensory Garden and outdoor classroom.

The Sensory Garden will be located next to The Irene Fuller House, and behind the new ceramics studio, all part of its Cleveland Metroparks campus in Bay Village. Huntington Beach is directly across the street from BAYarts, where Ground Works completed a 4,200-square-foot plaza for local beachgoers as part of a 2021 improvement and enhancement plan.

“The Cleveland Metroparks team and Huntington Beach opened our eyes to community facing projects and introduced us to other local institutions like BAYarts,” said Ground Works President, Tony Nasrallah. “Over the past year we’ve been meeting with BAYarts board members to finalize outdoor design plans for the Sensory Garden that will serve the community for years to come.”

The garden will be an innovative outdoor classroom and gathering space for all that concentrates on our major senses: see, smell, sound and touch. A majority of phase one will consist of laying decorative stamped concrete to offer full accessibility without discrimination. The updated plans also include a butterfly garden, interactive planters, outdoor art, vibrant plant life, custom landscape lighting and more.

Collaboration between the Ground Works design team and BAYarts was key to reach a design that was functional, as well as city and park approved. The backbone to any stunning installation is the professional design plans that are created before a shovel even hits the dirt. Ground Works employs one certified landscape architect and two senior designers that bring over 50 years of combined experience to every project we put our name on.

“Everything we do at BAYarts is not only for the community, but seen by the community, and that’s why collaborating with a like-minded business was so important,” said Nancy Heaton, Executive Director of BAYarts. “As a result of ongoing community support, BAYarts has been able to offer more educational classes, hire additional staff members, implement and enhance popular events like the Thursday Market, free concerts and Moondance, and drastically transform its campus.”

The Sensory Garden is slated to be finished by Moondance 2023, a popular annual fundraiser in September. A triumphant year for BAYarts as the organization celebrates their 75th anniversary.

The BAYarts Sensory Garden Project is made possible through the generous support of families and individuals as well as a grant from Ohio Art Council and a 3-year grant from the Bay Village Foundation. Fundraising and naming rights for the project are still available and actively being accepted, including a personal pledge of $10,000 from Ground Works President, Tony Nasrallah.
