Counting Her Chickens

You’re never too old to count your chickens!

At least, that’s what residents of Arden Courts – Promedica Memory Care (Westlake) are learning.

Arden Courts Memory Care Community, located on Center Ridge Rd in Westlake caters to the special needs of individuals with memory loss. Staffed by specially trained caregivers, Arden Courts cares for individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and related ailments. The community features friendly common spaces, an inviting kitchen and family rooms and walking paths within enclosed courtyards. And now, chickens!

The garden area at Arden Courts is a special place. Serene and comforting, the space has introduced chickens as part of the ambience. Research shows that the elderly find special comfort in caring for chickens as they chatter and peck their way around the sun-splashed residents. They are another form of therapy animal, like a dog or cat, that residents find calming.

The chickens, Arden Courts reports, are rented from an agency that specializes in chicken leases. They supply all you need to get started – hens, feed, food and water dishes and a chicken keeping book with instructions! All you have to do is enjoy their company, collect the eggs, and count the chickens!
