Organized this Spring by Erin Vanek, Gifted Intervention Specialist, fifteen 4th grade students at Westlake Elementary School were chosen to have their poems published in an anthology produced by creative Communication.
Less than 50% of the poems submitted to this national contest are accepted. Therefore, this is a huge accomplishment for these students. In addition, Westlake Elementary School will be acknowledged in the anthology for the second year in a row with the Writing Achievement Award. This distinction is given to the top 10% of schools who entered the contest.
These students’ poems will now be considered for the next tier of competition where the top 10 finalists will be selected. Those results will be released mid-summer.
