It was a battle of the unbeatens at Avon’s Mark Wahlberg Stadium last Friday night. But host Avon had little trouble getting past North Ridgeville with a decisive 38-7 victory.
“Big time High School Football atmosphere tonight in Avon, OH,” posted Avon head coach Mike Elder on X. “Much appreciation to both communities for showing up and supporting our kids. Proud of our TEAM and thankful for our student section, Band and Cheerleaders!”
Avon rolled to 5-0 in the win and the tough Rangers slipped to 4-1 in a heated contest marked by verbal jabs between the teams pregame. It fired up the Eagles, especially defensively, as they let Ridgeville across the 50-yard line just twice in the game.
North Ridgeville managed just 57 yards in the first half and ended with 157 total while Avon put up 347 total yards and earned a running clock. Avon quarterback Nolan Good passed for 195 yards, including a TD throw to Max Maxey who paced the Eagle receiving corps. Charlie Steinmetz gained 93 receiving yards for the Rangers.
Avon plays at Amherst this Friday while Ridgeville hosts Elyria.
