Avon Gridders Capture Silver Rail Trophy

Avon celebrates their win over Avon Lake as they hoist the Silver Rail trophy.

The Avon High football team hosted arch-rival Avon Lake in a battle for the Silver Rail trophy at Avon’s Wahlberg Stadium last Friday.

Now 8-1, the host Eagles pulled away from the Shoremen to post a 43-12 win.

For Avon’s seniors, it was four straight over the Shoremen. Avon also clinched its 10th straight share of the Southwestern Conference title. Avon can capture the outright title with a W over winless Elyria this Friday. Avon now holds a 26-20 lifetime series advantage in the rivalry with AL

After the game, Avon was presented with the Silver Rail trophy, symbolizing the railroad tracks that separate the two communities.

Avon wasn’t always dominant in this series. A few years ago, it was Avon Lake that set the standard the Eagles sought to emulate in their rise to dominance.

Since the inaugural year of this friendly food drive competition, donated food and money has totaled over 1.1 Million pounds of food. This has all been donated by Avon and Avon Lake community members!! It’s only fitting that Pam’s last SOUPer Bowl food drive as Executive Director shattered the previous record by the equivalent of over 13,000 lbs of food!
