Huck Kurinsky, a 10-year-old fifth grader from Bay Middle School, continues his meteoric rise in BMX freestyle, claiming his fourth consecutive SA BMX Freestyle National Championship over the weekend of October 11–12 in San Diego, California. Competing in the 9–10 age division, Huck delivered a standout performance with precision and flair, capping off a remarkable year that also included his first international competition victory in Toronto, Canada, and appearances on ESPN highlighting his rapid ascent in the sport.
Riding aboard his Huffy BMX featuring the all new Sledgehammer freestyle frame—Huffy’s first pro grade frame release since the 1990s, co-developed with Olympian Nick Bruce and Huck himself—he showcased performance and innovation built for the next generation of riders.
The USA BMX Freestyle National Championship, sanctioned by USA BMX Freestyle and supported by USA Cycling, drew elite young riders from across the country for two full days of competition and progression. Huck secured the national title with a dominant run that earned a division leading score and cemented his place among the brightest young talents in the sport.
A Lightning Fast Rise to the Top
Huck’s BMX journey began at age 3, pedaling around his local skate park in Bay Village during the early COVID 19 days. By 5, he was mastering tricks at Ray’s Indoor Bike Park in Cleveland, and at just 6, he made history at Woodward West in California as the youngest rider ever to land a BMX backflip on his first attempt.
This year, Huck’s profile reached new heights when he was invited to the SLS Super Final in Cleveland through his relationship with Nitro Circus, where he was seen connecting with athletes and celebrities including Machine Gun Kelly, underscoring his growing crossover appeal in action sports.
Beyond the Bike: A Kid with Heart
As Huffy’s Global Youth Ambassador, Huck embodies the brand’s “Live the Ride” spirit, championing bike safety through the Ohio AAP’s “Put a Lid on It” helmet awareness program. His community outreach includes visits to five Ronald McDonald Houses across the Midwest to donate bikes and scooters for families in need. Huck also leads annual “Ride to Cure” charity events supporting Cleveland Clinic’s VeloSano cancer research effort, dedicated to the memory of his late grandmother, Susan Althoff.
An exceptional student and multisport athlete, Huck balances academics and soccer with training and travel. Reflecting on his latest victory, he shared:
“Winning my fourth title feels amazing,” said Kurinsky. “I’ve been working hard all year, and it’s awesome seeing it pay off. I love riding with my friends and learning from some of the best in the world.”
Eyes on the Olympics
With BMX Freestyle’s inclusion in the Olympic Games since Tokyo 2020, Huck already has his sights set on future international podiums. He has competed at the UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup in France and continues training under U.S. Cycling Head Coach Jamie Bestwick, further solidifying his role among the next generation of American freestyle riders.
