Avon’s Uncle Junque Passes Away

So long to Avon’s Uncle Junque, Robert (Bob) Shinko, who passed away this past Saturday, June 20. His daughter Anne Marie Shinko-Brown, the current proprietor of Heart of Avon Marketplace, formerly Avon Country Store, shared this heartfelt tribute to her father.

Rest in Peace Dad –

Some of you might remember my father Bob Shinko from the Country Store (Stoney Ridge/Detroit Rd. – Now Heart of Avon Marketplace) of Avon for over 50 years. He peacefully passed away Saturday June 20, 2026. We will miss him so much! Avon Community lost a special person. Rest in peace Dad.

Robert J Shinko husband to his beloved wife, Lois “Lolo” (nee- Stauder), father to David (Lisa) & Anne Marie (Josh) and otherwise known as Papa Bob by his grandchildren Ryan, Kyle, Nathan, and Evan, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026 at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of service, joy, and deep love for his family and town.

A proud veteran, Robert, served his country in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1966. Following his military service, he brought his strong work ethic to his careers at Cotter & Company and Brinks Security, where his dedication and reliability were always on display.

For over 50 years, Bob and Lois, otherwise known as Aunt Teak & Uncle Junque, were the face and spirit of the Country Store in Avon, Ohio. They put their whole heart into the City of Avon. Bob absolutely loved talking to customers and anyone he met, especially talking about the store, eagerly sharing stories about past events. His commitment to Avon extended far beyond business; he was deeply woven into the fabric of local events. Residents will fondly remember him lighting candles at the annual candlelight walk, spreading holiday magic while playing Santa Claus, and always popping popcorn at the store.

Bob lived life with a vibrant spirit and big heart caring deeply for his family. He was a passionate dancer who loved nothing more than spinning around the dance floor, especially dancing the polka with his beloved wife, Lois. He loved shopping for his wife, often surprising her with flowers and new outfits. A proud alumnus of Saint Edward High School, he remained a loyal lifelong fan of Cleveland sports, with a special passion for baseball and attending his grandchildren’s games.

Bob cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories through movies, malts, special vacations, family outings, and countless shared moments together. He treasured deep conversations and prayer with his sister, Sandra. He also enjoyed testing his luck with the lottery and slot machines, and visiting his favorite local Avon businesses, where everyone knew him by name!

Above all, Bob was a deeply religious man whose faith guided his actions. His greatest devotion was to his family. He made it his life’s mission to ensure that his cherished wife, Lois—affectionately known as “Lolo”—was always safe, happy, and taken care of. He was a wonderful grandfather, who treasured every single moment spent with his grandchildren, leaving them with endless memories of his warmth and laughter.

Bob will be deeply missed, but forever remembered for his generous spirit, laughter, his storytelling, and the joy he brought to everyone.
