Bay Village Police Receive $10,000 Donation for Amy Mihaljevic Case

The women and men of the Bay Village Police Department would like to thank Joyce Buick/GMC for their incredible donation of $10,000 to the Amy Mihaljevic Fund. Their generosity will help fund forensic testing now and in the future as they work to solve this case.

Amy was abducted from a Bay Village shopping center in 1989. Her remains were discovered in 1990.

“It is truly special that so many people and organizations still remember Amy and her family and have supported the Amy Fund. Please rest assured that this is not and will not ever be a cold case. The BVPD continues to get information and tips on the case and we doggedly pursue each one as we work toward an arrest, conviction and Justice for Amy,” report the police.

In a letter to the Bay Village community, Mark Mihaljevic (Amy’s dad), explained the history of the unsolved murder:

“I am Mark Mihaljevic and I am seeking justice for my daughter. On Oct. 27, 1989 my precious daughter Amy was abducted from Bay Village Square Plaza and viciously murdered. On Feb. 8, 1990, her body was found laying in a farm field in Ashland County.

“As a family, we have been deeply touched by the outpouring of love and financial support after 37 years since Amy’s death. However, we need your help in solving this case.”

In 2019, Channel 19 did a story on the case and reported that DNA testing found evidence on Amy’s clothing that had not been previously discovered. That DNA needs to be tested with new technology and the cost is high.

Bay Police have invested over $100,000 on previous DNA testing in the case. The cost for a small hair is $7000.

“I am asking for your help to provide a donation to be used in the forthcoming DNA test,” writes Mihaljevic.  “Starting in June, 2026, we set a goal to raise $50,000 to cover these expenses.

Police also look for grants that take time to approve and must also deal with budget constraints. Your contribution will go directly to the AMY FUND. which is a line item in the City of Bay Village budget.

Community advocate Mark Kevesdy is a driving force behind the continuing efforts to solve the murder. A Bay Middle School teacher, Kevesdy manned a booth at Bay Days and hosted the presence of Amy’s dad, who met with community members in an effort to keep Amy’s memory alive and encourage support for the continuing investigation. “It is heartwarming to see how Amy has become everybody’s daughter,” he said.

Kevesdy is also hosting a 5k Walk and Kids Race on Oct. 24 as a fundraiser for the cause.
