Imagine getting a notice that someone was trying to use your address to mail a mystery package that contained $9500 in cash!
That’s what happened on July 19th when Westlake Police received a complaint from a business on Center Ridge Rd that someone was attempting to send a package via UPS that fraudulently indicated that it originated from their office.
The Westlake business had not sent the package.
Detectives and a Westlake K9 unit investigated and intercepted the package at the UPS store. The large envelope, which was addressed to a male in Fresno, California, was opened after investigators obtained a search warrant. The package contained over $9500 in cash.
Investigation into the intended destination as well as the person who dropped it off are continuing. The person who dropped it off was described as an Asian female.
Bad Night at the Promenade
Imagine being so stoned you couldn’t even remember your own name!
On 7/22/18 at approx. 2:12 a.m., Westlake Police received several reports of a male acting strange in the area of Detroit Rd at the Promenade. The callers believed the male might be under the influence of drugs.
Officers located the suspect doubled over on the grass on Detroit Rd. The male was unsteady on his feet, was sweating and was slurring his words. When asked, he hesitated reciting his name and date of birth as if he was making them up. It turns out he was making them up as he was later positively identified as a 33yo from Elyria.
Officers located his vehicle in the nearby Promenade parking lot. It was running with the doors open. There were apparently recently used hypodermic needles in plain view. Upon checking further, suspected heroin or fentanyl as well as Methamphetamine and narcotic pills were located. The male was arrested and charged with felony drug possession as well as misidentification and possession of drug paraphernalia. To top it off, the male had several outstanding warrants for his arrest.
Of Course They Were Nervous
Nervous? Then don’t drive around with an illegal handgun in the car!
On 7/26/18 at 11:24 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle on I-90 at Crocker for an equipment violation and suspicious activity. The 3 occupants of the vehicle appeared extremely nervous and upon questioning, admitted that there was a loaded handgun in the vehicle. None of them had a concealed handgun permit.
A 9mm Semi-Automatic pistol was recovered as well as a large amount of marijuana, a scale and other paraphernalia. The driver and 2 passengers were all arrested. The 2 males, 33 and 37 years old, were from Orrville. The other passenger was a 36 year old female from Cleveland. They were all charged with felony drug trafficking. One of the males and the female were charged with felony carrying a concealed weapon.
