UPDATE 12-20-18 9:15 a.m.:
On 12/19/18 at approx. 1127AM The Westlake Police and Fire Departments responded to a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Detroit Rd and Hamlet Ln. Good Samaritans and Westlake officers and firefighters attempted life saving measures but the victim, 72 year old Rita Louise Vargo of Oakland, CA, succumbed to her injuries. The accident involved the victim pedestrian and one vehicle, a Ford bucket truck operated by Spectrum Cable. The operator of the vehicle and his employer are cooperating with the investigation. Detroit Rd was closed for approx. 3 1/2 hours while the incident was investigated.

It appears that the accident involved the victim pedestrian and one vehicle. The operator of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation. Detroit Rd will be closed for several hours between Melrose and Clubside Drives while the incident is investigated. The identity of the victim will not be available until we are able to notify next of kin.

The accident involved the victim pedestrian and one vehicle, a Ford bucket truck operated by Spectrum Cable. The operator of the vehicle and his employer are cooperating with the investigation. Detroit Rd was closed for approx. 3 1/2 hours while the incident was investigated. The victim has been identified as a 72 year old who had been visiting the area from out of town. Her name and hometown will not be released until all relatives have been notified.
