Avon High School Mighty Eagle Marching Band Performs for Nursing Home Residents

Members of the Avon High School Mighty Eagle Marching Band recently gave a special performance for the residents of the Avon Oaks Caring Community nursing home facility in Avon.

Avon Oaks administrator, Colleen Costello, said that residents and staff often hear the band playing down the road at the stadium. She has been trying to organize a visit by the band members, and it finally came together on a beautiful night Oct 14.

Avon band director, Aaron Jacobs, welcomed the opportunity for the band to play for the residents, especially since many haven’t been able to get out during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The band played many songs from their show, as well as the National Anthem and Avon Fight Song for the crowd that gathered outside.

Costello said she was inside with one resident who said, “I think some of those kids had almost as much fun as us. They were waving to us the whole time.” Another resident said that hearing the band “made my year.”

For Jacobs, the performance was also a chance to give back personally as his grandmother received hospice care at the facility.
