Punkin’ Chunkin’: A Perfect Send Off for Your Gourd

Bay Middle School students gave a great ‘send off’ to Halloween last week with the school’s annual Punkin’ Chunkin’ event across the street from the school in Cahoon Park.

What is Punkin’ Chunkin’, you may ask? Why, it’s a way to combine Physics lessons with some fun by catapulting your gourd.

It’s a great way to settle the annual fall quandary: What do you do with your old Halloween Pumpkins? In Bay, you chunk them, silly! You put them on a good, old-fashioned Trebuchet (catapult) and let them fly!

The third annual Punkin’ Chunkin’ at Bay Middle School the day after Halloween did not disappoint. The event featured some fun competitions between the Trebuchet teams, including the ones pictured here in action! Thank you to Mr. Illenberger, 6th grade science teacher, students, faculty and the many families who made it all possible!
