Avon Living Legacy Award

Lois and Bob Shinko

Lois Shinko and husband Bob are the first recipients of the Avon Living Legacy Award.

The Award is an initiative introduced by Mayor Bryan Jensen at Monday’s City Council meeting. This award, the first of its kind, will honor a living resident of the city who has made a significant contribution to the community.

Displayed in the lobby outside council chambers, the commemorative wall hanging highlights Lois and Bob’s involvement in the community through their acclaimed Country Store and Lois’s dedication to preserving Avon’s history through her work with the Avon Historical Society, Landmark Preservation Commission and French Creek Foundation. Lois spearheaded the creation of many popular events, including the annual Candlelight Walk and Community Garage Sale in conjunction with Aunt Teak and Uncle Junque Weekend.

“Her hard work and steadfast dedication on behalf of Avon and its residents is deeply appreciated,” reads the plaque. “Lois is truly one of the city’s own treasures.”
