Cyclist Struck Crossing Against the Light

On 1/17/25 at about 2PM, multiple people called for assistance as a bicycle rider was struck by a vehicle in the intersection of Crocker and Detroit Rds. An off-duty WPD officer witnessed the crash and immediately rendered aid to the victim with other Good Samaritans until on-duty units and paramedics arrived on scene. Investigation revealed that the adult bike rider, on a small framed electric bicycle, was in the crosswalk when struck but had been crossing against the light. A vehicle proceeding through a green light struck the female. The vehicle operator immediately stopped and assisted in the investigation. The bicycle rider sustained serious injuries but has been released from the hospital to recover at home. Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected as being involved.

Ford F350 v Mercedes

On 1/20/25 at approx. 4PM, officers responded to Center Ridge Rd and Magnolia Pkwy for a motor vehicle crash with possible injuries. A Ford F350 had struck a Mercedes from behind causing disabling damage to both vehicles. The driver of the Mercedes was transported to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford appeared intoxicated and admitted to drinking. When asked how much, the 35yo North Ridgeville man said “not much.” The male was field tested and arrested for OVI. He refused to provide a breath sample at the Westlake Jail and was subsequently placed under an immediate license suspension. The suspect was charged with failure to maintain distance from the vehicle in front and OVI.

Shoplifter Nabbed

On 1/21/25 at about 4PM, WPD received a call from Michaels on Columbia Rd. The employee was reporting a shoplifter in the store. The described female, with two children in tow, was concealing jewelry in her purse. When confronted, she admitted she was going to walk out without paying. The 26yo Cleveland resident also gave the officers a fake identity. After the short time it took to verify who she really was, the now arrested suspect admitted that she had a warrant out of Lakewood for shoplifting. A 2yo and a 9yo were turned over to a grandmother. The shoplifter was charged with misdemeanor theft and misidentification.

Footprints in the Snow Lead to Child Predator Arrest

On 1/9/25 at about 10:15 PM, WPD received a called in tip that a “child predator with an outstanding warrant” was staying at a home in Westlake. The concerned tipster added that the 59yo had been “on the run” since 2021. Investigation confirmed that the described man indeed had a felony warrant for a sex offender registration violation. The caller also indicated that the man had recently stolen a firearm from a family member. WPD Officers and Detectives followed up on the lead and discovered that the man was no longer living at the described residence on Columbia Rd. They did learn that he worked at a restaurant in North Olmsted. Although the man had left work without clocking out, the determined WPD detectives, assisted by North Olmsted PD, tracked the man to the nearby Extended Stay Hotel. Literally, they followed footprints in the snow to discover the man was staying at the hotel. Within 18 hours of receiving the tip, the suspect was arrested without incident when he answered the hotel room door. He was later turned over to the Lorain County Sheriff Dept to answer to his charges.

Cocaine Trafficking

On 1/13/25 at approx. 6:30PM, officers stopped a vehicle on Columbia at Center Ridge after seeing that it was operating without headlights or taillights. The 38yo man, who listed a Windsor, OH address as his residence, was found to have an entered warrant out of Willoughby PD for trespass. Unfortunately for him, he was also in possession of 8 individually wrapped small baggies of white powder and a small spoon with residue. He admitted these baggies contained cocaine. The suspect was arrested and charged with possession and trafficking in cocaine.

They Escaped in an Uber

On 1/14/25 at approx. 11:45AM, officers patrolling the Red Roof Inn parking lot discovered a vehicle in the lot that was reported as being stolen out of Wellington. Avon PD let WPD know that they had been in a vehicle pursuit with the same vehicle the day before. Investigation revealed that the couple that had been driving the stolen car was staying at the hotel but had since left the area in a suspected Uber.

I-90 Spin Out

On 1/14/25 at about midnight, WPD received multiple calls reporting a spin out on I90. The concerned callers indicated that the out of control vehicle had struck a pole and wires may be down in the area. Officers arrived to find a Nissan Maxima in the highway ditch. The 24yo male who had been driving indicated he was not injured. As officers were speaking with him, they noted signs of impairment. He was field tested and arrested for OVI. He refused to submit to a breath test so the Lakewood resident’s license was immediately suspended. The driver was cited with OVI and failure to control.

Prostitution Arrest

On 1/15/25 at approx. 10:30AM, WPD investigators, associated with the Cuyahoga County Human Trafficking Task Force, detected an advertisement on a website known for prostitution. The Ad was remarkable because the poster indicated that she was servicing the area of Westlake, Parma, the Airport and Lakewood. Officers began to correspond with the female. She said that she would be available for a meet at the Sonesta Suites on Clemens Rd in Westlake. After agreeing on a price, the officers responded to the room and arrested the 31yo. The female, who listed a home address in Atlanta, GA, was charged with engaging in prostitution.

Scam Attempt

On January 15 at 11:34am, a Bay Village resident called reporting that someone had attempted to scam him. The resident reported that someone called him claiming to be his grandson. The “grandson” stated he was in jail and needed money for bail. The caller wisely hung up and contacted his real grandson who was, in fact, not in jail. The resident is not out any money at this time. Bay Village Detectives were notified.

Don’t Drink & Drive

On January 16 at 7:59pm, Bay Village were on patrol in the area of Parkside Drive and Wolf Road when they stopped a vehicle for a moving violation. After speaking with the female operator, a 37-year-old, Bay Village resident, officers suspected the operator was under the influence. After an investigation, the female failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. On station, the female was booked and given the opportunity to take an Intoxilyzer test. Upon taking the test, it was shown that the female had a .167% blood alcohol content. They female operator is facing numerous charges in Rocky River Municipal Court.

Suspected OVI

On January 17, 2025 at 11:38pm, Bay Village were on patrol in the area of Lake Road and Saddler Road when they stopped a vehicle for multiple violations. After speaking with the male operator, a 53-year-old, Cleveland resident, officers suspected the operator was under the influence. After an investigation, the male refused to submit to field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. On station, the male was booked and given the opportunity to take an Intoxilyzer test, which he refused. They male operator is facing numerous charges in Rocky River Municipal Court. A male passenger was cited for open container and was released on scene.

Snow Donuts

On January 19, 2025 at 8:34pm Bay Village Police were dispatched to the Bay Village High School Parking Lot on report a vehicle operating recklessly in the snow (doing donuts.) Bay Village Police arrived and stopped a vehicle found in the lot. The male operator, who denied driving recklessly, was identified and sent on his way.

Unwelcome Boyfriend

On January 5 at 12:30 am, an Elmwood Road resident called 911 reporting she believed her ex-boyfriend broke into her house. While on 911, the caller hid in the house so her ex couldn’t find her. Police arrived on scene and placed the male under arrest. The male was brought back to BVPD jail to be booked. The male was held at BVPD jail until he saw a judge for release. The 40-year-old North Royalton resident will be facing charges through Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.

Suspicious Package

On January 6 at 12:00 pm, a resident in the area of Lake/Fordham reported they received a suspicious package. Police responded and the resident advised the package had QR codes to scan. The resident didn’t want the property and turned it over to the police.

He Got Away

On January 6 at 9:21 pm, a Bay Village Police unit near Bassett/Wolf observed a vehicle make traffic violation. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, it took off at a high rate of speed. A short pursuit ensued but due to high speeds, units lost sight of the vehicle as it headed south on Bradley Rd. into Westlake. As the vehicle fled into Westlake, the suspect vehicle turned off its lights and headed westbound on Detroit. Surrounding agencies were notified of the vehicle but it eluded police.

Facing Numerous Charges

On January 7 at 12:26 am, Bay Village Police observed a traffic violation near Lake Rd/Pinewood. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle. Upon speaking with the driver, it was suspected they were under the influence. Due to the current weather conditions, the driver was brought back to BVPD to conduct field sobriety testing. The female was arrested for OVI. The female was booked at the BVPD jail. She submitted to a breath test, which yielded a BAC of .065%. The 19-year-old Avon Lake resident will be facing numerous charges through Rocky River Municipal Court.

Dirty Guy!

On January 8 at 3:50pm, a caller on 911 stated they were involved in a hit-skip accident. The caller advised they were following the suspect vehicle near Cahoon/Wolf Rd. The suspect vehicle was traveling above the speed limit and not stopping for traffic control devices. Bay Village Police responded to the area and with the help of the caller, located the vehicle near Revere/Knickerbocker. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle. Upon speaking with the driver, he showed signs of impairment and had soiled himself. Field sobriety testing was conducted on the driver but was stopped for safety reasons. He was placed under arrest for OVI. The male was transported back to BVPD jail to be booked. The driver submitted to a breath test with yielded a BAC of .198%. The 79-year-old Westlake resident will be facing numerous charges through Rocky River Municipal Court.

Mental Health Crisis

On January 9, 2025 at 05:20am, Bay Village Police were dispatched to the front parking lot of the station on report of an adult female have a mental health crisis. Officers spoke with the female who was in distress. Officers were able to calm her down and the Bay Village Fire Department was called to assist. She was later transported to a local hospital for further assessment. The female also had two dogs in her vehicle; removed and held by BVPD for safekeeping until they were later returned to a family member.
